Happy Onam
Hi Friends,
From Adwin Battery, a very Happy Onam to all of you who celebrate this festival. May God fill the joy and divine light of this festival in your life and you feel the blessings of this day thoughout of the year.
As I know, Onam is a harvest festival celebrated according to the Malyalam calender. For us, who are unknown to Malyalam calender, it falls in the month of August-September. Its origin is Kerala but it celebrated in and outside Kerala with same enthusiasm. It marks the summer harvest and is celebrated with numerous festivities. It includes Vallam Kali (boat races), Pilokali (tiger dances), Pookkalam (flower arrangement), Onathappan (worship), Onam Kali, Tug of War, Thumbi Thullal (women's dance), Kummati kali (mask dance), Onathallu (martial arts), Onavillu (music), Kazhchakkula (plantain offerings), Onapottan (costumes), Atthachamayam (folk songs and dance), and other celebrations. It is the New Year day for Malayali Hindus.
Onam is the official state festival of Kerala with public holidays that start four days from Onam Eve (Uthradom). It is celebrated by Malayali diaspora around the world. Though a Hindu festival, non-Hindu communities of Kerala participate in Onam celebrations considering it as a cultural festival. However, some non-Hindus in Kerala denounce its celebration as a cultural event because they consider it as a religious festival.
The festival commemorates the Mahabali, Vamana (Vishnu Avatar), Kashyapa and Parashurama -related mythologies of Hinduism.
Whatever be the reason, a festival is meant to be celebrated. Festivals bring happiness and positivity in our lives. Adwin Battery believes in spreading happiness and smiles allover. Once again good wishes for Onam from the team of Adwin Battery.
Stay blessed.
